I have decided to re watch all the presidents men, as I have the feeling that nothing Nixon did can be as bad as what Trump has done and is doing.

Hegseth has managed again to abuse Europe, this is from a man who is a television presenter with no real military background or proper knowledge telling us what we have to do. Trump has told lies about the Italian prime minister and they will now not visit USA

This whole assembly of vile money grubbing untrained “politicians” are making a nonsense of what a president and his council should do and be doing.

Trump really does behave like a toddler in a supermarket - I want - I want - I want

A ballroom - a cage fight - a plane - lots and lots and lots of money. And he can swear and curse and abuse anyone he likes BUT he has a temper tantrum if anyone says a word against him.

Get Real Republicans - are you proud to be part of this, are you proud that history will show how you allowed this to happen, and allowed Ukraine ( still fighting like a tiger) wth very little help and Europe constantly abused despite the fact that we politely brush aside his abuse and get on with the work we need to do in very difficult times because your toddler decided he would start a war to see bombs drop, a war he cannot stop without handing over billions to a disastrous regime.

Oh and then there is his pal Netanyahu who has bombed Palestine and South Lebanon flat, both countries won’t see a penny of the millions Trump has amassed , in his time in power, in reparation.

Angry - I am not angry, I am incandescent with rage, and I can do nothing to help.

Compared to T****, Nixon’s shenanigans are comparable to a corrupt HS Student Council president misusing Students of Color Activity funds to buy pizza and beer for his lacrosse buddies.

Yes that is what I thought.

Just cannot understand why his surrounding government are standing back and letting it happen. My only thought is they are all scraping up the leftovers for their piggy banks

Both sides. Very few dissenting voices are faintly heard and quickly fade away.

All the Presidents Men is a good movie and Nixon, like with the real Watergate, does not appear in it except as an answer to the question: how far up does this go?

For my film class, when focused on politics, I compiled this list: Wag the Dog, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, All the King’s Men, All the President’s Men, The Best Man, Truman, First Monday in October, Primary Colors, Seven Days in May, The Manchurian Candidate, The Great McGinty, JFK, 12 Angry Men, Dead Man Walking, W, Lincoln, Ides of March.

Besides All the President's Men, I would suggest The Great McGinty and Wag the Dog for pure entertainment of corruption in politics. But there are other greats on the list.

Heather, you bring to light an important message about Donald Trump: It is that he is a man of a few essential themes.

Aside from being an ostentatious grifter, his entire adult life is one where he disparages women and people of color.

As the rent collector for his father, and his condemnation of the Central Park Five - continuing even after they were found innocent and released from prison.

His years long efforts to contest the birthright of Barack Obama - claiming, falsely, of course, that his “investigators in Hawaii” will be supplying evidence “any day now” - the name calling of “shithole countries” - the patronizing comments in his rallies where he calls out, “where’s my African-American”.

We see it at play with his efforts to scrub DEI from every corner of American society - schools, the military, etc., along with his numerous efforts to disenfranchise Black voters, and scrub clean the historical record of Slavery in America - Have I missed anything…?

The other themes associated with Mr Trump are pathological lying, greed, being contemptuous and insulting of people, having a Messianic Complex, and being incapable of admitting fault, or of taking responsibility.

In short, we have, as our President, someone with the personality characteristics that would disqualify anyone from being a teacher, a principal, a CEO (perhaps) of most companies.

This is who represents our country to the rest of the World - and for juxtaposition, as you correctly pointed out, Heather, we have Michelle and Barack Obama.

The contrast is beyond words…

Thing is Paul, HOW the fcuk did he get to be RE-elected?!?!?!?!?!

What were the ‘hopeful’ people of America thinking when he stood for a second term - and won?

How on earth did it come to this?!?!?!?

How do you stop this insane runaway train?

In my mind, there is only one answer and it is NOT to wait until November! The 250th anniversary of the USA must be ‘celebrated’ with hope turned into reality by the people who actually know what needs to be done and to work together quickly to stop the train-wreck in its tracks.

The nightmare must end! It is THIS important!

I wish my republican family would read this. I have gone no contact with my siblings and their families. I tried for 10 years to argue with them about Trump. I can't accept that they support him. It has torn my life apart. I lost my husband of 51 years 18 months ago after caring for him at home, I had to grieve for him, my family, and our Country, it was more than I could bear at times. You give me hope Heather. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Kathy, it hurts to hear of the losses you’ve endured. But please know you’re in good company with millions whose values you share. You’re a brave lady!

Kathy Gearhart's avatar

Thank you. I have held that in for awhile now. This gave me a safe place to voice it.

I am so sorry for your loss! I too lost my husband of 50 years back in 2020. It is so hard to be alone! I was lucky to have help from my in-laws and afterwards, move closer to my own family in the U.K. I hope you find good people and peace.

Kathy Gearhart's avatar

Thank you. Sorry for your loss.

Kathy, It is people like you, those with real experience of what makes the world work, who now have the chance to spread the love and hope needed to help end the nightmare that most Americans (and others around the world) are living through.

THIS, your personal action, may well be the best way to express the will of the people and the disgust felt for the self-serving actions of those despicable individuals currently ‘representing’ the country and running it into the ground.

I sympathise with you for the loss of your family relationships because they have been manipulated by the lies of a cabal of corrupt criminals.

I try to find ways to make people feel good about themselves. It makes me happy.

Thanks Heather. Another masterpiece of good reporting. I hope when this is all over you compile these pieces into a book for future historians. Thanks for telling it exactly as it is with no punches pulled.

More and more batshit crazy, irrespectful of everything except gold and his own little fucked up deranged childish spoiled ego. Time to send him into oblivion, seize his assets (and his family / friends) and distribute them to vets and poor families struggling to keep alive. Fuck trump, gop and scotus. Vote!!

There seems no end to the Dumpkof's giant ego. And the newly decorated Air Force One has been paid for by American taxpayers, many of whom are feeling the effects of Trump's actions.

Thank you for the sign about reminding people (including Trump) that America is a nation of immigrants. He's only a first generation immigrant on his mother's side and a second generation immigrant on his father's. Hardly a Mayflower descendant.

As I watch all this theft of taxpayer money I keep wondering why any of the contractors who do the work are not refusing to proceed with the jobs without proper paperwork certifying the authorization to do the work. What if they just declined? This could be nipped in the bud. I hope that when we move out of this horrible period those companies are exposed and held accountable for participating in a crime

As Obama so poignantly said in his speech at the opening ceremony on Thursday, we must not lament in what was or could be, but work hard to make the future the best of all possibilities and efforts. We must decide through actions and a real fight to vote ( I am thinking how many adversaries will do everything possible to censor and destroy), that such a despicable, low-life, cowardly, disgraceful, mean, scoundrel should ever abuse the seat of our highest office again. The fear of men and women in high places that would rather save their own hides than to do what is right for the country plays a central role into bringing about this decay and rot, like the green slimy pool, reflecting perfectly the dangerous buffoonery of trump and his accomplices. @heather, for the work you do to consolidate all these atrocities, my thanks. 🙏

The jet was a cast-off, they tried to sell it and non-one would buy.

Having had a slight connection work-wise with an eminent member of the Quatari royals, a funny and charming man, I can well imagine the giggles behind the royal hands when they dumped it on him.

Chris G Day's avatar

Do you know if they left a few screws loose?

Asking for several million Americans (and millions more around the world)?

JayTay's avatar

I think they knew , considering who it was going to, that was already established.

And the Republicans in Congress have no problem with this. Trump is literally giving the finger to our nation and its Constitution. Americans are struggling and our president is touting how luxurious his plane is.

I guess we are being taken for suckers by an entire political party.

Keep that in mind folks when MAGA election officials try to rig our elections.

Every day we’re shown more of his greed..his graft..his corruption..it’s all becoming normal and the shock factor is lessening.

We are not surprised…we are not enraged…we are becoming numb.

DO NOT LET THAT HAPPEN.

Every single thing he does must be scrutinized..criticized..denounced because every single thing he does is wrong and not in the best interest of the country..only in the best interests of himself and his cohorts.

We must respond to each and every incident with the reaction it deserves..anger..and resolve to stop it or change it even though it’s exhausting.

His actions are a series of distractions to take us off guard..to keep our heads spinning from one disaster to the next so THEY can work behind the chaos and foment their evil plans.

DO NOT LET THEM SUCCEED.

We have to be proactive..positive..secure in the knowledge and belief that we can change this..that we have no other choice but to change this..that we will change this and move forward like sharks in the water..we know what happens when sharks stop moving forward…..

Worst. Schmuck. Ever.

Pompous. Narcissistic. Ass.

I volunteer for an organization that helps people obtain food. Most have children, beautiful children. They are struggling. And the Ass throws money away like it was just grains of sand. And it's our money and meant to be for food for people who need a little help.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who watched the Obama's speeches in full and felt as if I were having a cleansing shower, washing off the vile vomit spewing out of the regime daily. To hear words making full sentences, articulate, empathetic, hopeful. To listen to such clarity of thought directed at others, not about themselves - even though the Center bears their name, there was frequent reference that it was designed for all. Truth. Honesty. Empathy. Something we haven't heard from the Regime. Ever.

I am deeply grateful for that beautiful, warm shower!

The nightmare he has created is painful for so many of us because this is not who we are. Our country was founded on values like decency and respect for all people. Michelle's words of hope and believing in who we are, must never be lost. We The People, have the power to over come these terrible times. She reminded me, "no one is coming to save us... Yes we can!"
