Before leaving the White House for Walter Reed Medical Center, Donald Trump posted close to 20 times on Truth Social. Not about rising costs, global instability, or the growing violence spreading across the country. Instead, he spent the morning posting fake images of Barack Obama and glamour-shot propaganda photos of himself trying to look powerful, feared, and untouchable. A “master dealmaker.” A strongman. But one post stood out from the rest because it crossed into something darker, into a line no American president has ever crossed before. Donald Trump shared an image of himself holding a shotgun as if he were personally threatening members of his own political party, whom he believes are not loyal enough to him.
When this crisis is all over, and it will be, you Heather, will need (and I'm not the least bit religious) an industrial strength exorcism to purge you of all the horrors you've encounted, and had to enumerate.

I am one of those who lost my health care as a result of Trump’s policies. I am also a brain tumor survivor with continuing neurological issues, and with a family history of cancer. And I’m a retiree on a fixed income. I’m now reduced to rationing my healthcare. I’ve had to cancel my mammogram and my colonoscopy because I cannot afford to self pay. Both my parents died of cancer. I’m playing Russian roulette with my own health because I’m being persecuted by my own government for speaking out. They revoked my passport, costing me my job and my access to affordable health care. Welcome to hell. This is America in 2026. I no longer want to be a part of it. And maybe I won’t even have that choice for much longer given my circumstances.

I am so sorry! I too had breast cancer (1991) and colon cancer (2017). I was lucky I had health insurance through my work in 1991, but in 2017, all I had was Medicare that covered only hospital stays. I ended up not getting chemo because I couldn’t afford it. No one is more surprised than I am that I’m in my 10th year of survival, and now living in the U.K. There’s an awful lot of cancer in my family too!
You’ve been through your share, for sure. I was fortunate to have insurance back when I needed my skull cut open. But I’ve spent years uninsured or underinsured since, because my company fired me after I had the audacity to survive the surgery. Only after first denying me disability and access to the retiree health plan, of course.
That is appalling! It might have happened to me too if I hadn’t changed jobs right before the breast cancer diagnosis was confirmed. I was incredibly lucky that a colleague at my new job had just gone through chemotherapy and she supported me and advocated for me. I kept working all the way through as I was terrified of losing that job—but I didn’t, and stayed in it for nearly 23 years, when I retired.

I served 24 years in the Air Force and I may be the only military person who voted for Jimmy Carter (twice). This current administration scares me. I have never seen anything like this before and yet I lived through the Nixon years. I fear for our democracy and for our country. There are days now when I wonder if my service has meant anything.
