I have just listened to a Trump enthusiast talking about his marvellous president on the BBC news and practically choked on my tea.

He enthused about all the good things he has done - stopped illegal migration ( well faced with ice who wants to come to USA) and no longer taxing tips !

When asked about the appalling financial gains of the president and his family, it was all glossed over.

He did state that Trump is heading to Mount Rushmore to choose his place on the monument. He also when asked about the divided America effectively stated Mandani was on the extreme left ( implying communism ) These Trump acolytes are bonkers

I think Jason Watson has more likely hood of a place on Mount Rushmore, for the extremely brave stance he has taken, and I am so glad that Americans have stumped up to financially help his case.

I want to wish all intelligent, sensible Americans a lovely 4th of July, and all we can hope for is that the midterms overthrow this corrupt government and help right the ship of justice and common sense.

Charlotte, I too find myself spitting out and choking on my tea with horror and outrage over the things this admin and its acolytes do and say. I know we are all pacified, sucking on the social media algorithms that tell us what to think but one day, the giant will awake and we will rise up. I believe the reckoning is coming and I know, because I know history, we will not all survive the great revolution when it comes. I am hoping those on the list of who must go include 1100 American billionaires. This must be a class revolution or why bother? If this revolution pits middle class and poor people against one another, then I could not fight. I will fight the enemy, but those who are trying to get by, even if they wear a magats t-shirt, must be allowed to live free. The Epstein class must go. It's okay, they all have private islands and yachts to get them there. Byeeee.

Heather thank you for your detailed analysis of the day. I have fond memories of frozen bananas 🍌 on Balboa Island as well! Good times.

Outstanding post Heather - thank you. Examples of courage, sacrifice, and honoring what our country stands for, the principles it was built on and the rule of law that can keep it together.

Why is it that we the people and a few others not in the current regime get it, while the very people who COULD and SHOULD be taking corrective action sit in silence? For personal wealth accumulation or just blatant cowardice?

I’d say BOTH.

250 years and here we are. Time to clean house - both houses!

Here in the UK it is 8:54 a.m. Already we have heard the news of amazing Air Force Major Jason Watson, being arrested on the steps of the Capitol for demonstrating against the current regime.

God bless that man , his name will go into the history of these times in a way the the Republican Congress and trump will not.

No Jan.6th. demonstrators were harmed during the filming of this event. Pity.

Stay strong America , you need a few more Good Men.

We could do with a few of those too, here in the U.K.

JayTay's avatar

True, but no comparison to what is happening in the U.S. We would never have let it get that far.

I know, but we are in a bit of a mess, with Nige hounding us from one side and poor old Keir on his way out on the other. I wasn’t a Labour Party supporter (don’t really know what I am now!), but I think he was doing his best in a thankless job.

Amen! I agree with you. If I was President. I would revoke the January 6th pardons and send them back to prison to continue to serve their prison sentences. Period. Watson made a history!! He wasn’t afraid to speak out and stand up. He is my hero!! Jack Smith is my hero. He will bring January 6th trail when the current President will leave. Jack Smith isn’t afraid of Mr. Trump.

JayTay's avatar

I doubt that Jack smith is afraid of the Devil himself !

Jack Smith is a tough prosecutor. He is very passionate about law and constitution. I admire Jack Smith.

Thank you for all the posts you've written, Heather. Usually they make me mad; this one made me cry but they were tears of thankfulness for people like Major Watson and Jack Smith.

My hope for the future of America is not strong but it's still flickering. This post reminded me to not give up and for that I sincerely thank you.

Pirro's embellishment of the facts will have this phony charge thrown out of court. She's simply, and I mean that in the biblical sense, playing up to that delusional fraudster. He's openly proud of his ability to make money, however underhanded it is. In fact the more underhanded, the better. He thinks his swindles are a stroke of genius, so do his die hard supporters. Still, the receipts are piling up. They'll topple over and squash him if he lives long enough.

Heather's avatar

This charge regarding the pool lining is so patently absurd and only to deflect from the mistakes made. Pirro should be ashamed of herself. I can’t wait to see it thrown out and called absurdity.

I would like to remind every former member of Congress that they too took an oath to the Constitution. That oath is not for just while in office. That’s not the definition of an oath. It’s for a lifetime. So I’m going to call out former members of Congress, especially those cowardly Republicans who see what this administration is doing to our country and chose to leave rather than stand up for the Constitution. You are not relieved of your obligation to the Constitution. You are in the best position possible to speak out. You’re not running for office. You have no constituency to answer to. Speak out! Your oath demands it.

Thank you Heather ! Please turn these writings into a text book for our next generation. Your beautifully crafted vignettes should be mandatory reading in every High School. ‘How our country ( almost?) collapsed into totalitarianism’

GERE FULTON's avatar

If not a textbook, at least they should be in a bound volume of The Fight Against Tyranny. I would buy copies for my children and grand children. You, Heather, along with Jason Watson and Jack Smith, are evidence that heroes walk among us.

Every reasonable American citizen should raise a placard that says, “I STAND with JASON WATSON’ not just to reinforce his right to speak out against the government but to defend the rights of ALL Americans and send a message to the administration that we are all witnesses to the corruption and abuse of power that is happening in America right now!

July 4th is the moment to make that stand!

Katy Bolger's avatar

As I worry about the consequences for him, I stand with Major Jason Watson, USAF, for showing what real bravery looks like and not the cosplay the idiot Hogsbreath shouts when he is before a microphone. I have been concerned about the propaganda the armed forces was having shoved down their throats and for many of the younger soldiers, sailors and airmen, that BS becoming mother's milk.

Thank you Major Watson. You are the first American hero of this 250th year of American history. I would vote for a statue of you on the front of the White House lawn (or the steps of Congress). I hope your sacrifice inspires many more to come forward and say, Basta!

Tom Coggin's avatar

I have never felt more patriotic or proud as a former USAF Officer ‘67-‘71, that a fellow Officer spoke to truth to power, knowing the consequences that he would face.

Major Watson has fired the first shot in an upcoming American Revolution, if only the mainstream press would cover this story. The fracturing of news coverage over the past 10 years will intensify if Trumpmagas don’t stop the spread of their lies. The irony of our time is the collapse of news coverage while opportunities to get news has grown and social media grows. Americans are not getting the information they need despite the immensity of resources. It’s like we’re all reading the same book but not at the same pace, in the same language, and in the same order. We can’t agree, we can’t understand, and we can’t trust.

JayTay's avatar

Our British press covered it in great style ! Check out the Guardian U.K.

Thank you for helping grow that Sense of Community that has been so lacking in the US lately. As we celebrate our 250th, I really do see people being more open, and more concerned about

our country's direction. May it become a wave.

What a very brave man Major Watson is. He is in danger of being court martial led yet he is willing to stand up for his beliefs and the oath he took years ago to serve his country. The Dumpkof doesn't know what loyalty and integrity are.

I wish all decent and sensible Americans a happy 4th July tomorrow. I know it's difficult but the good people will win in the end.

Jane Hall's avatar

We all have goodness inside - now we have to find it. It’s normal to disagree but can we live and let live.

Janet Currie's avatar

Charlotte, I missed the item on the BBC about the Dumpkof heading to Mount Rushmore to choose his place on the monument. Oh please give me a break. There's as much chance of the orange Hitler's image being carved in Mount Rushmore as I have singing grand opera at the Metropolitan. This must not be allowed to happen. Common sense must prevail.

Thank you, Heather, for your daily posts. A special thank you today for the details on hero Major Jason Watson.
