Thank you, but your columns make for appalling reading every morning here from the UK 🙁. His vanity and delusions are laughable and frightening at the same time. Do ordinary Americans realise how low your country has sunk in the esteem of the rest of the world? Do they care? Most of us are just trying to sit it out for as long as it takes, but please get on with it! People are dying 🥲

Yes and yes. It is horrifying every day. Absent action from a spineless congress, our only tool is our vote in November.

Yes, we many/& now most of us totally realize what is happening and vacillate between horrified mourning and deep panic. It’s definitely no picnic here!!! And are we embarrassed & deeply concerned that our international relationships are being corrupted and distorted?? You bet we are!!! It’s an interconnected world more than ever. And it’s horrifying to realize the US is now the weak link!

Of course the majority of Americans realize how dangerous Trump is. That is why his overall approval rating is down to 36%. And 80 - 85% of those included in the 36% self identify as registered Republicans. The irony is (well all of it is irony) is that of those, about a third are evangelical Christians, and the remainder are Christians of different religions. I'm not religious, but I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't be giving Trump a slap on the back and an "atta boy". Total hypocricy.

What we needed all along is the people that we voted into office to actually represent us, do what is right for America. It seems that is FINALLY starting to happen. Most of the Republican representatives have to know that he is ruining America. Now that a few have publicly withdrawn their support, the hope is the dominoes start to fall rapidly.

I'm hoping that when the rest of the world follows Trump's actions, they also follow his approval rating consistently dropping. We want our friends back.

I totally understand this. I do what I can. I did a one-woman protest in my very red state on a street corner for three hours one Saturday. I have attended all the protests. I write letters and make calls and speak out. I am 74 and a stroke survivor. I have been protesting since the 70s. I’m freaking worn out but I will not give up!

Janet's avatar

Yes we know and we are terrified because our elected leaders are feckless.

Shelly Rellim M.'s avatar

We do know, but cannot remain terrified, unless you turn this into action.

Remember, being terrified, exhausted, feeling defeated, etc., is exactly what they want…WE CANNOT let them.

We are NOY ANGRY enough.

It’s okay to feel all these real feelings as long as they don’t keep us down and frozen.

Remember, self-care is very important because we are in a sprint and a marathon simultaneously!

Oh we certainly do care! Personally I don’t understand why someone doesn’t stop him. I will vote in November and I encourage my friends to do the same.

I was at our local baseball game Friday. I found it hard to keep my hand over my heart as they played the Star Spangled Banner. I am so embarrassed for our country. We are a laughing stock to the world.

He is filth. He's always been disgusting but what really stinks now are the spineless witless scumbags that support him.

Keep up your incredibly important work Heather. You are a hero

A brief comment about Trump’s golf game. For you non-golfing readers I should tell you that golf is a very precise game. It requires constant practice of fundamentals; no one is born with a correct grip (the positioning of one’s hands), good golf posture, or correct aim of their body and club prior to making their swings. There is an old saying among golf instructors, “if you want to make sure a student never comes back for a second lesson just try to change his grip.” That’s because it’s extremely uncomfortable to change the way a golfer holds the club.

Try to imagine Donald Trump taking a golf lesson. Ask any golfer what happens when they try to change something in their swings. Inevitably they initially hit worse shots than before. If Jack Nicklaus told Trump that it was critical that he learn to hold the club correctly if he wanted to play better would Trump follow that advice?

On a less technical level I would suggest that non-golfers look at pictures of famous golfers. There are very few who aren’t physically fit. That’s not surprising given the fact that golf requires physical balance. Trump can’t even stay in balance when he is walking. It’s not surprising that his golf swing looks more like a lunge than a graceful swing.

Trump wants the world to believe that an 80 year old obese man can shoot 70! It’s ridiculous!

Just for grins 🤣🤣🤣, I asked for Claude’s take on this “tournament”: The honest answer: there isn't a public "field" or scoreboard to give you, because this isn't a real tournament in the sense you're picturing. It's the annual member-only Club Championship at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, self-officiated (of course!!🤣), with results announced Sunday only through Trump's own Truth Social post — no independent broadcast, live scoring, or published leaderboard exists.

What's actually known:

Event: Bedminster Club Championship, senior and super-senior net divisions, at Trump's own private club in New Jersey. Played Saturday, Aug 1; Trump announced the win Sunday, Aug 2.

His score: Self-reported 2-under-par 70, which he says won him both the Senior and Super Senior Men's net titles (two trophies).

Field size / other scores: Not published anywhere. Club championships like this typically involve a few dozen members playing across flights/categories, but no outlet has the actual scorecard, other competitors' names, or a full leaderboard — only Trump's own account of what happened.

Format: Stroke play, member net-scoring divisions (senior/super-senior), standard for a private club championship — not a sanctioned pro or amateur circuit event.

Other players: Unnamed. Trump referred to beating "many fine golfers" and, in a separate account of a related club win, mentioned beating "a 27-year-old kid," but no roster or names have been reported.

Context worth weighing: This is at minimum his 40th+ self-claimed club championship across his courses (he cited 38 last December). Sportswriter Rick Reilly's book Commander in Cheat documents long-standing, specific cheating allegations against Trump (e.g., caddies at Winged Foot nicknaming him "Pele" for kicking his ball back into play). In 2023 he claimed a 67 at the same Bedminster event, three strokes better than this year's claimed 70. Trump denies all cheating allegations. He also framed the win in his post as evidence of physical "strength and stamina" needed "to GOVERN."

So the details you're asking for — full field, all scores, complete list of competitors — genuinely don't exist in reporting. What exists is Trump's self-reported score at his own club's private event, media coverage of that claim, and a documented pattern of skepticism toward his golf claims generally.

Just remember, his nickname among the (mostly immigrant) course workers at his private clubs is "Pelé." ☺️

And you know that DJT is the greatest soccer player of all time, too!! He’d twist that into another confirmation of his ego-manical narcissistic greatness. Get ready to see a TS posting of it 🤣

Randy Barron's avatar

Good point! Now that he knows what a red card is, he's a total expert on the sport. It was only his bone spurs that kept him from scoring more goals than Messi. 😏

Ken Chapman's avatar

So, trump is a liar, a paedophile, a greedy swindling arsehole, a thief, a fraud, and he's also shit at golf. Who'd have thunk it.

Richard Wendt's avatar

I hadn’t seen this but nothing he says or does surprises me any longer. We can look at his irrationality and be angry but the overarching threat is his utter incompetence. It appears the Congress of both parties seemingly is incapable of doing the rational thing and that is to tell him to his face he needs to resign.

Let the American people see this act by 535 members of Congress and the pressure would force him out. He has to go. He is mentally unstable and a threat to the entire world.

It’s pretty clear Trump is failing and badly. What now? Do reporters continue to report his lies and half truths while the rest of his administration hides? Things feel stagnant, as if we’re all holding our breath until the midterms.

Anne Fletcher-Jones's avatar

I wish they’d all get together and decide not to attend any of his ”pressers” or travel on AF One wherever he goes. And all media should refrain from including photos or videos of him in any of their publications or shows. He’d really hate that. Don’t give him the attention that he craves.

Shelly Rellim M.'s avatar

Anne, I ponder that all the time and realize even if we did that, he would still gather his own made-up press. There are plenty of FOX-Faux news “reporters” to step in. He doesn’t care who is there, they are all usable propaganda machines and targets of his hate.

My disappointment was the White House Correspondents Dinner…take 2….it would’ve been great for them either NOT to show or turn their backs or walk out when he spoke. He craves the attention and it’s a perfect response to his infantile tantrums and his insatiable Lust for attention.

Suel J's avatar

He does have state media. He ownes it. they have normalized this crap. They laugh with him at awful things. They ask no questions. They print nothing really controversial and the overall effect is "shrug, it's trump" .

Trump is the most destructive person on the planet. This war is wrong. Any move we now make there is wrong. We need to leave.

We had dinner with neighbors Saturday. Both women voted for Trump both times. Now, they plan to sit out the coming election because they dislike both parties. Why these Trump supporters voted him in, but after witnessing the damage he has done to our country, won’t help remove him from doing any more harm to our country baffles me. I call bulls*it

Leigh Van Lydegraf's avatar

Bet those two women never heard the Access Hollywood tape...Fox, et al never played it! I ask every Trumpette if she is Grab Worthy...crickets!!!

"these children are being trained for war". Don't believe they are not. President Miller has these Hitler ideas on brain embedded in his sick fascist brain. His only thoughts about Hitler are that he would not have made the same mistakes.

Trump is a disgrace to the office in which he squats, an ugly and ignorant self-serving bigot enable by billionaires enriching themselves happily off taxpayer dollars while the Trump family businesses rake in billions from anyone happy to pay to play. OPM is the name of the game and the other people are us.

If the GOP in Congress could find their spines and their claimed (but fraudulent) patriotism, the sorry and bloody spectacle would end.

Not holding my breath.

'There is no version of history where Donald Trump belongs beside those two men.".... Well... no version of history YET... but somewhere I sense that Donald Trump's enablers are working feverishly writing new history books that Lind McMahon will mandate for our schools and making new panels for the NPS and the Smithsonian that lionize King Donald...

We'll have to start over.
