At 6:07 tonight, the president of the United States and the governor of Florida made a beeline straight to the press that were waiting beside Qatari Air Force One on the tarmac in Fort Myers, Florida. As they got closer, Donald Trump fumbled with a coin in his hands just as DeSantis grabbed it and thrust it directly in front of the reporters and their cameras. With Donald Trump standing behind him, the right side of his mouth drooping downwards, DeSantis grinned from ear to ear as he showed the journalists the shiny gold-plated coin he had presented to the president, embossed with the words “YOU MISSED BITCHES” and a distorted image of Donald Trump holding up his middle finger.
What was apparently intended to exaggerate his “near-death experience” in Butler, PA, also made a perfect distraction from the news of the rampant corruption in Donald Trump's administration.
In my opinion Stephen Miller is the worst of the worst people who surround Trump. I believe he is the single most influential architect of the unbelievably cruel tactics of ICE and similar elements of the government.
Thanks Heather for another courageous slog through the endless swamp of what has become our maladministration.
Last night’s post about the Amy Acton ad made me sick to my stomach from disgust and anger.
Tonight’s post was even more frightening as you expose the corruption on a global scale. That ridiculous coin epitomizes how far we have fallen as a country, and anyone who actually buys one shows how many people we’ve lost to the cult.
I only hope there are enough sane voters to begin turning the tide, and breaking the hold that the maladministration has on all of us.
I’m so tired of daily “fresh hell.”
I need to see the sunlight back - maybe think of all our votes collectively creating a light bright enough to drive out the vampires.
In the UK our gas prices are rising, all due to DJTs disastrous war with Iran. We also feel less secure now that he is against NATO, plus his cosying up to Russia. We hope the blue wave is massive!
After years of watching Trump dismantle the global order created after WW2, which led to the US becoming the most powerful nation in the history of the world, I've finally stopped asking, "why?" The unbridled corruption of his 2d administration answers that question. Three tasks face us: holding the guilty accountable; fixing the mess; and changing the system so this can't happen again. We are so polarized that I'm not sure that #3 can happen.
There can be no confusion over the two Dan Sullivans. I saw a screenshot of the Alaskan ballot on MS NOW. It clearly labels Daniel S. Sullivan as the Republican incumbent. The entire premise of the government's lawsuit is bogus.
I wonder if the Russian hacker is a plant and the information purportedly from Jared Kushner's phone disinformation meant to further divide Americans and turn us against each other, a stated Russian goal. As much as I dislike Kushner and think he is a crook, it just all seems too pat and in character to be believable without corroboration from other sources. This is the kind of information independent journalists must be extremely cautious about repeating and spreading.
I understood that the so called supreme corrupt court had made corruption legal. With allowing crypto shit currency it is quite helping international bribing. From international private companies such as oil tech warmongers etc. Did I miss any episode?
Heather, I'll try to keep this short because I've said it before: Your blog is the single most accurate contemporary account of the hard facts that underlie the causes of the worldwide misery inflicted on virtually the entire population of the world by the plenary corruption of this stupid, evil, soulless, mindless man, his extended crime family, the enablers and sycophants who surround him and the misled voters who elected him, including racist MAGA and the blind majority of those leaders of religious right who have literally suggested he is an instrument of God. Your journalism is impeccable and your energy is boundless. There is no chronicler of this era that I admire more. Your work will be forever preserved by historians yet unborn.
Yes, I do see that this is not only not short, but it contains a seriously long run-on sentence. The latter is not an accident. I very much enjoy composing run-on sentences, and I consciously extend them when they appear, because I believe they can be curiously emphatic, as illustrated, if you think about it long enough, by the inimitable, almost unreadable classic, Finnegan's Wake.
Do not tell us (and me) that you are surprised! We all know that they will do everything and anything to cheat by whatever illegal means to stay in power. Going to be bad very bad indeed
Every day, I read the news and feel sicker than I did the previous day. Not just because of djt’s actions and those of his toadies and minions, but his betrayal of Ukraine, his cozying up with Putin, the war that HE started in Iran, the Netanyahu regime’s genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, the riots in France and Italy because of the appalling state of schools, to name but a few. And now our government is urging us to stockpile food and supplies for “at least three days”.
Luckily, I always keep a good stock of things like baked beans, rice, pasta and canned fish, and yesterday, inadvertently acquired about a year’s supply of muesli because I failed to notice the weight/volume of the packet (I’m not used to metric measurements after living for 57 years in the U.S.!). So I’m ok for supplies but live in an apartment and have no idea how I’d fare if there’s a prolonged power outage. Two of my six brothers ( maybe my two older brothers) who live in very rural areas, have generators and I suppose I could buy one (I have no idea what they cost in the U.K.).
I had been thinking this was because of this year’s poor harvest due to the nationwide drought (in ENGLAND of all places!!!) but now I hear it’s because they are worried about Russian aggression, which reminds me of my teenage years during the height of the Cold War when we lived in terror of a nuclear attack.
I don’t know how you manage, Heather, to get through watching all those djt videos! You are very brave and I’m so grateful to you. I couldn’t do it—I can barely bring myself to even listen, let alone watch him although I make myself do it occasionally. I wish I could just go to sleep for the next 11 days and wake up when the election is over! I’m probably not the only one!
My recommendation for White House vampire Stephen Miller: convict - denaturalize - deport.

It makes me glad I don’t drive and live only a ten-minute walk away from town, also the railway station and bus stops.

I think the really interesting thing about the Alaska case is how little regard for his citizen's intelligence and acumen the President evidently has
