Just after 6:30 p.m. tonight, the President of the United States stood before a room of governors at a formal White House dinner and opened his remarks by confessing that he believes his own Cabinet or maybe others in the room want to overthrow him...
“Because part of the reason we’re here is that we never fully dealt with the darkest chapters of our own history….. we never did the deep structural work to make sure the systems that allowed those atrocities couldn’t be reactivated.”
This. This is the crux of everything. Trump was propped up as the demagogue who could ignite those smoldering embers into a roaring flame.
We were at a party last night and we talked about how our country was built by enslaved people on stolen land. No wonder we are rotting. We need to be accountable for those horrors.
Exactly. Those horrors were baked in from the beginning. There’s the feel-good fairy tale of America’s founding, and then there’s the dark “rest of the story,” as Paul Harvey used to say.
In the WIsdom tradition they see evil needing to be personified to expunge it. That’s what Hitler was. It looked like we’d done the job with his defeat. But, as this brilliant piece says, we still haven’t done it totally so we got Trump — another opportunity.
Pamela, I believe that many, and hopefully most of us, dealt with those dark chapters. The civil rights movement lead to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was the year I believe. But you always have a group of people who want to scapegoat someone for their troubles so they don’t have to take responsibility, and that’s where we are now in a new time frame. This country was built on immigrants of every color and nationality and it’s time to take that narrative back from the propagandizing old white guys! I hope you consider joining the Resistance! That's a level of insidious manipulation that I hadn't contemplated until now. And if he's not even aware of his own decline, it poses the question "does he even understand how damaging, dehumanizing and destructive his maladministration's policies are?"

He may or may not understand the heinous results of his policies in the present time; but they are consistent with all the awful things he's done in the past so he doesn't get a pass just because he may have dementia. This is who he's always been. And if we believe what's in the Epstein files (I do), he's been even worse than we knew back in the 80s and 90s.
It is astonishing that so many people in a room can see that Trump is mentally and physically unable to function and not say a word! No one is brave enough to speak out! I thiught convucted felons could not even vote much less run for office. How did he get away with that in the first place? My mom died if dimentia and he has a classic case. Very obvious to most of us. He may nor know how aick he really is but they do.

When my friend was in the end stages of dementia, she was paranoid and worried that everyone around her was plotting against her. Maybe trump's thugs and minions are plotting and maybe they are not,... At any rate, article 2, section 4 needs to be initiated against the lot forthwith.

The lack of a strong commitment to civic responsibility has helped get us to this point. There is an awakening as seen in the country-wide demonstrations. 100%. And the challenge is now. Once this regime is defeated, it’s going to take at least the same degree of effort to wring out the unworthy and build a just and effective government. This moment may be good practice for the vigilance required.

I was there in the late 60s and I’m most definitely here for it now, resisting in all the ways that I can.
My daughter and her spouse belong to a marginalized group and have left the US for safety. Like millions of others, this is personal for me.
