My son, his wife and their beloved community of comedians, writers,performers, directors, scenic and costume designers and so many union members who live in LA (all of our community by way of the Chicago comedy scene)
Were enclosed in horrific fires that destroyed everything in their path…
Somehow, Burbank, where my kids lived, while surrounded by firestormed communities was untouched…
The very FIRST group on the ground with The Red Cross
With no FEMA help in sight (or even acknowledgement from the WH)
Was World Central Kitchen and of course Cal Fire coordinated all of the engine and fire and rescue resources at their disposal were called in immediately
Even my neighboring Fairfax County Search and Rescue and Firefighting Team from 2500 miles away made it there before FEMA
But you know who beat THEM there?
Mexican fire and rescue workers came first
Followed by legions of resources from CANADA
Without being asked
Without being officially called on
Canadian authorities sent as many aircraft and helicopters capable of scooping up water from the ocean and carrying it to the firestorms, dumping it and then, time after time
Heading back out to sea to do it all over again…
My son and many of his neighbors flew Canadian flags as a thank you
And here we are now…
With roles reversed
And all this nasty and cruel government can do

A few days ago, a Canadian crew safely evacuated a MN YMCA wilderness camping group because the Canadians were closer! Also recently, a Canadian pilot of a water scooper plane was killed in a crash in Colorado where Canadian firefighters were HELPING THE U.S. FIGHT FIRES IN COLORADO!
